Vintage Vault Find Black Bakelite Disc Dangle Beads

A wonderful find from a vintage bead hoard, these black Bakelite discs have been given new life as unique dangle beads. Each one has been hand-drilled by my husband, making these especially fun vintage components for jewelry designers and collectors.

These substantial round discs measure approximately 25mm in diameter and 4mm thick. They have a deep black color, smooth polished surface, and a simple classic shape that makes them wonderfully versatile for earrings, necklaces, pendants, mixed-media pieces, and statement jewelry.

A Little Bakelite History

Bakelite has an important place in the history of early plastics and vintage jewelry. Developed in the early 20th century, it was widely used for jewelry, beads, buttons, household items, and decorative objects. Today, vintage Bakelite is treasured by collectors and designers for its history, distinctive character, and connection to an earlier era of jewelry making.

These came from a vintage bead hoard, and quantities are very limited. The hand-drilled holes and vintage material give each piece its own character.
