Our Story "A Grain of Sand"

The faces behind the account…I’m Lauren (R), my Mom aka Mama Sand or Suzanne (L) is the founder and owner of A Grain of Sand. Mama Sand has been a creator all her life, as child I have fond memories of her painting, making soap and designing jewelry. AGOS was born when Mama Sand created a jewelry line with pearls being her inspiration for every piece. Why the name A Grain of Sand? When a grain of sand gets into the shell of an oyster or clam it secretes a shell like substance known as nacre to coat the intruder leading to the formation of a pearl. Mama Sand began selling beads and I helped her when I could. Eventually crystals became apart of AGOS. In person shows began to fizzle out. This amazing thing called the internet was born! Mama was one of the very first bead websites to hit the internet. She was a pioneer of her time! I lived my life: got married, had a son, opened a yoga studio, got divorced, and faced a series of unfortunate events. I needed some serious healing fam! I repeated the same mistakes for years, wondering why the outcomes kept getting worse. I had enough! I was in the darkest time of my life with a newborn baby hours away from home and a crystal showed up at my doorstep. Mama Sand sent me the most beautiful Lodolite wand. This brought me back to the happy times of my childhood with my mom at gem shows. I wanted that! I wanted to be happy, I wanted to heal more than ever! So what did I do? I took a leap of faith, left my old ways behind and came home to North Carolina. It was there, amidst my mothers business that I discovered my authentic purpose while working closely with crystals. We have found a tremendous amount of healing and peace here. We don’t know exactly what it is but there is something about crystal energy. I can’t tell you that crystals are responsible for my healing, I did that! Crystal energy has been a catalyst for change and an inspiration for growth. I have formed a deep bond with my mother because of them. I am grateful for the gift of life and the opportunities that have arose because of the gifts that Mother Earth has so graciously given us! This business was started in 1997. It's hard to believe. It was a time of new beginnings and the beginning of the world wide web as well as A Grain of Sand.
