Danglers: Leaf Me Hanging
Posted by Elizabeth Hamilton on Oct 8th 2012
I haven't always been a dangler fan. When I started beading, I was learning to be a bead weaver, so seed beads were (and still are-honestly) my first love. Yes, I'd stray into crystals and some fire polished Czech glass...but that was about it.
Eventually I branched out toleaves and daggers, incorporating them into my weaving. They were my introduction to the world of danglers. A few boxes ago I received some frosted grey leaves. I held them aside to make a swag necklace using cross-weave.
I wanted to share my pattern with you for your personal enjoyment. And remember, if you've got more leaves in your yard than in your stash, or you missed the July box, there's a bounty to be had- as soon as the autumn leaves (item #20575) popped up in new finds, I made an order!
Here's a version of my swag necklace in pink.
If you'd like to make your own (it's perfect for fall) you'll need:
2 needles
25 leaf drop or dagger beads- wider beads make tighter scallops, skinny beads make gentle arcs.
124 4mm beads- I like traditional fire polish, but rounds work too.
140 6mm beads- see above
3 yards of bonded thread- I'm hooked on 8lb Fireline
1 lovely clasp.
Like so many of my beading plans, another idea swept up the grey leaves I was holding aside. Which is why the example is pink. While digging through the September box I found some fun lilac-y amethyst-
y sew ons that were a fun contrast to some furniture brads I had in stock, and some spikey danglers and vintage chain I'd gotten from the site. The leaves that i'd been saving became part of this cuff instead.
Ah well, we all make sacrifices, I guess!
This shot shows those leaves in action. I used them for texture both in the body of the cuff, and sewn onto a screen clasp (from the Hoard- naturally!) That September sew-on is front and center here.
So wherever the fall Curiosity Club boxes take you, I wish you happy
